Thor: Love & Thunder is shaping up to have some incredible stars join its cast. First, it was Christian Bale, who many are theorizing will be playing Gorr the God Butcher. Now Matt Damon has been cast in Thor: Love & Thunder. That’s in addition to Natalie Portman returning as Jane Foster. Her character will be acquiring the hammer in Thor: Love & Thunder and become the new and mighty Thor!
fdddVery little is known about the plot of Thor: Love & Thunder. Marvel is, very understandably keep details on the project under wraps. Matt Damon will start filming soon though, as it’s been stated that he’s already in Sydney, Australia. That where they’re filming, in case I hadn’t made that clear. Love & Thunder will also feature several Guardians of the Galaxy characters. Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Tessa Thompson and Matt Damon are all currently quarantining. Luckily Chris Hemsworth lives in Australia, which must be nice while filming.
Matt Damon had a small role in Thor: Ragnarok, the previous Thor film. In Thor: Ragnarok he played a man in a play who was playing Loki, recreating the events leading to Loki’s death in a very… dramatic fashion. It is unknown whether or not he will be reprising that specific role but I’m inclined to say that’s not the case. It would be incredibly strange if that were the case. Hopefully news of his role will be revealed soon. If it’s not we can at least have some fun trying to speculate until it is!
Thor Ragnarok is set to release on May 6, 2022. There’s still a long time before we get to see it. There are several other Marvel films meant to come out between now and then though including Black Widow (May 7, 2021), Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (July 9, 2021), Eternals (Nov. 5, 2021), and a Spider-Man sequel that might star Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
