AMC Looking Into Doing A Negan Spin-Off After ‘Here’s Negan’ Success

So, it’s safe to say that The Walking Dead season finale was a success. The entire ‘Here’s Negan’ episode focused on the backstory of Negan himself. We got an origin story for him, learned what happened to his wife, and even how he inherited the bat. It was successful enough that AMC is looking into doing a Negan spin-off. It’s kind of crazy that this hasn’t been considered before, with how popular Negan is. I know the series ratings’ declined after he was introduced but… I don’t think that has to do with Negan. I always felt like Negan was a strong antagonist. I felt like it had more to do with the way The Walking Dead paced its show and baited people with repeated ridiculous cliffhangers. Still, Negan might finally be getting his spin-off now which is what matters, I suppose. AMC is actually surveying viewers in order to gauge the interest in a Negan spin-off.

AMC

Are you wondering why you may not have gotten a survey yourself? Well, that’s because it’s only available if you agreed to submit feedback through AMC Popular Culturists. I should also note they didn’t just ask about a spin-off. There was also an option in the survey for additional episodes or even just a limited series. I think any of the options would be absolutely fine, though I’d prefer a spin-off myself. I have no idea how it would work, but if AMC could pull it off it could be something really entertaining.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan answered some questions about a Negan spin-off on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “There’s talks. There’s been some talks [about a Negan spin-off]. I think that, between AMC and the good folks involved with Walking Dead, they’ve asked if there’s any interest on my end. But I think they’ve also talked to many of the characters to see who’s interested in carrying on the story, and not just Negan. This all kind of came about, this being the last season, came about as a bit of a surprise in the middle of the pandemic. And so it was sort of a pivot for everybody and the show, storywise and otherwise, so I think we’ll see. I think there’s certainly more story for Negan, I think he’s becoming more interesting in each episode, in fact. So we’ll see.”

You’ll be able to catch the final season of The Walking Dead starting August 22 on AMC.
