Do you guys remember when everyone agreed that the original Star Wars was good and the prequels were bad? Those were the simple days. Now we have to take into account the sequel trilogy as well. Nine films that no one can agree on makes Star Wars a difficult fandom to get into. Still, it’s one of the biggest franchises, well, ever and there’s certainly an interesting world to explore. Still, when the prequels were coming out the movies weren’t exactly well-received. Especially if you were Jar Jar Binks. Still, many of the actors were incredibly excited to be a part of a new generation of Star Wars films. No one was as excited as Ewan McGregor, though! But even Ewan McGregor struggled while filming the prequels! Since everyone hated them, y’know. That and because of the hokey script and all the CGI.
Hello, there
“George [Lucas] loves technology and loves pushing into that realm,” McGregor explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “He wanted more and more control over what we see in the background. After three or four months of that, it just gets really tedious — especially when the scenes are … I don’t want to be rude, but it’s not Shakespeare. There’s not something to dig into in the dialogue that can satisfy you when there’s no environment there. It was quite hard to do.”
The Mandalorian used new techniques that sort of blend traditional and CGI. The Obi-Wan Kenobi show will be using those techniques as well, apparently. Hopefully that makes it a little easier for Mr. McGregor.
“They project [the virtual backgrounds] onto this massive LED screen. So if you’re in a desert, you’re standing in the middle of a desert,” the actor expressed of the process. “If you’re in the snow, you’re surrounded by snow. And if you’re in a cockpit of a starfighter, you’re in space. It’s going to feel so much more real.”
