Scott Gimple, the man in charge of The Walking Dead franchise over at AMC, seems excited for the anthology series that’s coming. He’s been feeding us details about Tales Of The Walking Dead very slowly, but at least it’s something! New series information!
Tales Of The Walking Dead is an anthology series that was announced by AMC in September. The series will tell “very different” tales set in The Walking Dead universe. AMC says about the series, “episodic anthology with individual episodes or arcs of episodes focused on new or existing characters, backstories or other stand-alone experiences,”.
These will be hour-long episodes, and one thing we know we’ll see is tales set at the very beginning of the zombie apocalypse. It will also tell new stories set across The Walking Dead universe! We could see potentially anything!
We’re working on it. Our operating principle right now is single hours that are very different week to week,” Gimple said during a stream on Twitch’s TWDUniverse. “We’ve left the door open to tell longer maybe multi-episode stories in the universe. We want to keep it really flexible. But to start out with, we want a bunch of very different stories where the audience isn’t going to know what to expect.”
So, the series is being compared to the Twilight Zone! Instead of one self-contained season each time, this is more a series of self-contained stories set in The Walking Dead universe. So we’ll see several different stories across one entire season.
These won’t even necessarily all be in live-action either. AMC is promising we’ll probably see some animated episodes as well! Heck, there’s even rumors of an entire episode centered around Daniel’s cat! That’s pretty wild!
We’ll see some Walking Dead characters who are already dead appear in Tales Of The Walking Dead! We know for sure Michael Cudlitz’s Abraham will appear, for example. This means any character is open for some kind of prequel story.
“It goes back to those questions people have been asking about different situations, or what happened with different characters that we have had already, and then things that are just not related to anything we’ve told,” Gimple said. “That’s the kind of thing we want to do. We’re working on it hard.”
The series creator revealed during the Walking Dead Universe Preview Special that in Tales there are “going to be stories told with old favorites, there are also going to be stories told with brand new characters. These stories are from all over the Walking Dead timeline, and all over the Walking Dead Universe. We may be doing different formats and possibly utilizing animation, music, different mediums. We want to surprise people every week with what they will be getting.”
Even Kirkman has commented on the series saying the series “a tremendous opportunity to explore many different aspects of the Walking Dead Universe, to be able to jump forward and backward in time, and also do things that are much different than what we’ve done on The Walking Dead thus far.”
Did you enjoy the new series information? We’re pretty excited ourselves! Hopefully, you enjoyed the new series information!
