The Walking Dead director confirms that filming on Season 11 has officially begun. And, there is one glaring omission from an image announcing that filming has begun!
Producer Kevin Deiboldt posted to Twitter of the “long-awaited start” to shooting, postponed by the coronavirus pandemic, with work on the final run now under way. What is curious is that Kevin Dowling is listed as the director on the clapperboard. Why is this a big deal? Well, typically Greg Nictero directs all season premiers, mid-season finales, and season finales.
Nicotero’s absence is curious but we’ll chalk it up to the liklihood that Nicotero is working on another project. In a normal year, The Walking Dead doesn’t start filming until sometime in May. With filming starting in February, it’s likely that Nicotero was already committed to another film or show.
The caption for the photo below read: “Let’s do this . . . The first day of the last season of #TWD.”
“A full (effed up) year in the works, we truly hope it’s worth the wait.”
As filming on season 11 commences, The Walking Dead will is set to air six new episodes starting February 28. The episodes are sort of a bonus, added as an extension of Season 10. These episodes will explore individual stories and were shot differently than past episodes, as they were shot to accommodate social distancing and safe filming during the pandemic.
