Arrowverse: David Ramsey Set to Star in New CW Series Titled ‘Justice U’

David Ramsey, who previously starred as Oliver Queen’s steadfast right-hand man, John Diggle, on the beloved show Arrow, might be about to make a return to the Arrowverse in a major way.

The latest news is that The CW is working on yet another DC TV series, in which Diggle’s training of the next generation of heroes would be featured.

As first broken by The Hollywood Reporter, Ramsey has agreed to take part in Justice U, a show that has allegedly been secretly planned for months. If The CW decides to make a pilot, Ramsey will also direct it, albeit it’s still early days for this new superhero addition to the ever-expanding universe.

This spinoff was born as a result of a larger arrangement Ramsey made with Berlanti Productions to feature in and guest star in several episodes of the Arrowverse. This has been utilized previously this year, when Ramsey appeared on Batwoman, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Superman & Lois, as well as directing an episode of the latter.

From writers Michael Narducci (The Vampire Diaries) and Zoanne Clack (Grey’s Anatomy), here’s how Justice U is described in an official synopsis:

“After spending years fighting alongside masked heroes, John Diggle embarks on a new mission to recruit five young meta humans to live undercover as freshmen at a prestigious university. There he will oversee their education and train them to become the heroes of tomorrow.”

While the synopsis does not reveal who the five young heroes are, it’s unclear if they will be new additions or returnees like Ramsey, with a mix of both options. Justice U is the second DC series being created by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, David Madden, and Geoff Johns for the 2022/23 season.

The CW has rejected a number of DC projects in recent years, including Green Arrow & the Canaries, Painkiller, and Wonder Girl, but new ones are always being created. Take a look at Naomi, which just premiered this week. So it’s impossible to determine whether Justice U will make the transition to film.
